Corrections Policy
How to ask for a correction, what happens when you do, and how a corrected story is marked.
We want to be corrected. If something we published is wrong, tell us and we will deal with it quickly and in public.
How to request a correction
Use our contact form and in it state, as precisely as you can, the story, the sentence you believe is wrong, why it is wrong, and any document that supports your position. If you are correcting something about yourself, say so.
What happens next
- We acknowledge the request and, where the matter is urgent, we act on the day it is received.
- We check the original sourcing and any material you have supplied.
- If we were wrong, we correct the story and add a note explaining what changed.
- If we were right, we explain the basis on which the story was published and, where it would help, add that context to the story.
How a correction is marked
A correction is never made silently. The story carries a dated correction note stating what was wrong and what it now says. Where a story was substantially wrong, a fuller note is published and the story is reviewed in full.
Removal requests
We do not remove an accurate story because someone dislikes it. We will consider removing or anonymising material where there is a serious risk to a person safety, or where a person who was a minor at the time is identifiable and the public interest in naming them no longer outweighs the harm.
Complaints about conduct
If your concern is about how our staff behaved rather than about accuracy, use the report a concern form and mark it for the attention of the board.
